Senior Engineer

Senior Engineer Minimum 3 years experience

Our business is at a point where we are faced with the potential of rapid growth. In order to achieve this we are looking for a developer who thrives working on both front-end and back-end languages and can hit the ground running.

About Us

We are a small team of designers and developers based in Cape Town that have been around for over 10 years. We have a strong track-record in design and digital with a range of interesting and challenging projects. Recently we refined our approach and services and we rebranded our company to Auxiliary. (Previously known as Sploosh Digital) This rebrand process has allowed us to persue bigger and better projects.

About You

You're a pro-active person with good communication skills and a can-do attitude. You have a keen interest in emerging technology, new tools and best practices.

You'll be managing and maintaining existing systems and also be required to build great new ones – while also introducing insights and changes to achieve greater levels of efficiency.

As a team, we are constantly aiming to improve our production process and are implementing SCRUM where ever possible.

Developer Responsibilities

As a senior engineer in the Auxiliary team, you will be working on developing and improving features built primarily in JavaScript (some times nodeJS), AngularJS, and PHP. You will be creating production grade JavaScript and PHP code and will have the opportunity to implement solutions designed to handle all levels of traffic.

You will need to be process driven and eager to learn new technologies and programming languages. You will also be communicating directly with users or customers on a regular basis to investigate issues and truly understand how your work is being used.

Job Requirements

  • Some Graduate studies or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years experience using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AngularJS and PHP
  • Familiarity with distributed revision control systems such as GIT
  • Experience using jQuery, MySQL, Redis, Memcached, Linux, Nginx and Amazon Web Services a plus
  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks such as Selenium a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently - accountable for your own actions and able to act with both urgency and integrity
  • To be eligible to be shortlisted, you must be a permanent South African Citizen

Expected Remuneration and Hours

Ideally the position is a permanent role. We are flexible on the hours and location to get the work done. The tools we use make this possible.

Otherwise, it will be 8 hours per day, 5 days a week. Salary will depend on experience.
